Frank Deimel: ‘better priming with thermo-modified-wood’

Frank Deimel, one of our network partners, has long-standing practical experiences in building electric guitars and bass guitars. The aim of his workshop is to build guitars with highest quality in sound, playability and workmanship. Deimel uses various tone woods from different countries worldwide. For example woods for guitar bodies and necks are usually imported from the US while fretboard woods often come from tropical countries. Working solely with local woods would be a great improvement for him, he said. The goal is to get lighter and more resonant material through thermo-modification on local woods. This way even woods not well known for their acoustic properties yet, can eventually replace the high quality tonewood traditionally used in guitar making.

“Guitars built of thermo-modified woods feel like an already long played resonant guitar. Our customers love that and also the fact that the wood has locally grown instead of being shipped over oceans.“ – Frank Deimel
